Divine Rivals
by Rebecca Ross
Overall Rating: 4 / 5 stars.
Genre: Historical Fantasy, Romance.
POV: 3rd.
PG: Non-explicit intimate scene (once towards the end of the book), death.
Overall a beautiful book; I thoroughly enjoyed the word building through out the book. It seems a like fantastical version of WWII involving two gods however this is more of a sub-plot with the romance between the two characters being the main highlight.
I would not classify this to be an enemies to lovers plot but more like secret admirer to lovers plot. There is an element of hidden identity that was quite predictable and at times cringey.
In the book the war is not the main plot as mentioned earlier and so don’t start the book expecting front line action.
My reason for 4 stars:
Pros - Beautiful word building, especially in the first half.
- Great character progressions.
- Sweet romance that develops with the character progression
- 3rd POV.
Cons - Aforementioned word-building dwindles during the second half.
- Becomes more predictable and like every other hidden identity romance.
- Personally felt more unnecessary loose ends were created for a second book, especially towards the end.
