The Stranger
by Albert Camus
I liked the simplicity of the prose, and I liked the premise and the progression of the plot. The characters were relatable in a way, or at least they felt realistic. Some of the descriptions were very simple and beautiful. But the narrator definitely annoyed me at times, because of how passive he was about everything. He clearly has wants and desires but it takes some sort of tragic moment for him to see it. He’s also definitely some sort of sociopath. I would have a high school student read this, if I were teaching high school lit.
