Cold Enough for Snow
by Jessica Au
Three stars for I’ve read too many Japanese literatures, especially classics that I don’t find narrator’s internal feelings and observations about the world particularly fascinating. Sometimes wisdom jumps outside of the page but pretty flat overall (for me). I also personally don’t like characters who are too obedient when reading fictions. But I appreciate writer’s good work in voicing second generation of migrants’ confusion of sensing being “adrift” sometimes when looking back into history and family relationship. It’s a not-too-bad night read.
