The Atlas Six
by Olivie Blake
"Being feared was a bit like anise, like absinthe. A strange and arousing flavor. Being admired was golden, maple-sweet. Being despised was a woodsy, sulfuric aroma, smoke in his nostrils; something to choke on, when done properly. Being envied was tart, a citrusy tang, like a green apple"
This was really my introduction to Dark Academia and also my introduction to Olivie Blake. She is now my favorite author and this is one of my favorite books. The writing is spectacular and all of the characters are so complex and mysterious. There is not one character who I feel is filler. This book's magic system is very unique and the way it is used differently from character to character was an enjoyment to read about. I feel I could witness in my head everything described and had such an emotional reaction to the plot. Loved it is an understatement!!!
