First off, this trilogy was a cover buy. I knew/know NOTHING about the author. I had NEVER heard of him, and actually STILL don't know anything about him...except that I'm loving his stories.

SO, when starting the first book...we are told the parameters of what's at hand...and I bought in, totally.

Detective Henry Palace is the type of person that you want on your side. Loyal, to a fault. In this dying world, he's trying his hardest to stay honourable and doing "the right thing", even when, it is no longer his job.

When opening THIS book, I was wondering IF the author would be able to sustain the level of curiosity and tension...that he was able to do in the first book. Glad to say, he did it. Harry's circumstances are now different, but he's still the "solid rock" that you want, no...NEED on your side.

About 75% into the story, I thought the books has to be over, right? No, there were still unresolved parts of the the inciting incident in this novel's story...and the author was able to clarify some thiings, and also sets up (tees) the final book up beautifully.

Onward to World of Trouble by Ben H. Winters.
