American Prometheus by Martin J. Sherwin, Kai Bird
4.0

An amazingly in depth story about the father of the atomic bomb. In addition to obviously understanding the life of Oppenheimer, the story is a great way to better understand the political climate of the 1930's 40's and 50's including the rise of the communist party in America and the subsequent McCarthy-ism.

While at times my lack of physics knowledge detracted from the book, the insight into how Oppenheimer's vast knowledge of philosophy influenced his political views/atomic strategy was great. Definitely recommend!
