If there's one thing about Colleen Hoover it's that she's always going to find a way to make a story both heartbreaking and beautiful and this was definitely the epitome of that.
Kenna is not a bad person. She did a bad thing and to watch her be punished over and over again, and be so accepting of the way she's being treated because she genuinely believes that she deserves it was unbelievably heartbreaking.
This is a woman who only wanted to see her daughter. She didn't even have unrealistic expectations; she was content with keeping things exactly as they were, she only wanted to see her and yet this entire book she's forced to keep her distance. Every single almost meeting just made me more and more sad for her, having to watch over and over again as she was denied the one thing she wanted more than anything.
But she had Ledger. He's such a complex character, being that he was Scottie's best friend and such a large part of Diem's life but he sees something in Kenna that no one else does... that she's human. He sees a mother who only wants a place in her daughter's life and he can't help but empathize. He falls so fast for her and becomes her biggest advocate and I loved that he never gave up on her.
I'll forever be glad that Scottie's parents came around and that everyone got some semblance of a happily ever after. After so much heartache, every single person in this book deserves as much happiness as they can get 🩵
