I gave this wildly popular book a shot. I really did. It was finally relegated to the DNF shelf after ploughing through 75% of the audiobook because my ears were just about bleeding from the incessant descriptions of "tensed jaws" and "rippling muscles".
Pros: Great world-building, lots of war games and superpowers that would make for a great movie or TV series adaptation. I'm also a big fan of Tairn, the grumpy black dragon with a wickedly dry sense of humour.
Cons: The protagonist is insufferable and entitled, and the love triangle needlessly woven into the story was written so badly with little to no character development. I wanted to DNF this much earlier, but stuck it out because of the stellar 4.6 Goodreads rating. I suppose that's on me for failing to learn my lesson that something tagged "booktok" is my contrarian signal.
