Cop Town by Karin Slaughter

3.0

I received this free book from NetGalley for an honest review, all opinions are my own. Kate a rookie in the Atlanta PD thanks to in part by the movement to integrate equality in the city and the police department. Maggie comes from a family of cops but never embraced by the all boys club. After five cops were killed and her brother injured in the line of duty the cops are in an uproar to bring justice. I loved the female characters and their humor and sarcastic nature. Taking charge and forging their own investigation to find out who is killing other cops.
I understand this takes place in the 70's which equality and integration was just on the cusp but I found it very tasteless and didn't really feel that it added value to the story. I think it could have been just as interesting without the use of so much racist, homophobic and sexist comments. Due to that it really lost a lot of my interest in this book. I do like Kate's transformation as well as Maggie finally sticking up to her Uncle.
