Saga, Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan

5.0

So far the beginning of Saga has been great. Attempting to describe Saga is a very complicated matter, and allusions that compare Saga to other great works like Star Wars is pretty valid. It begins with such a rich Sci-Fi setting and atmosphere, that it's consuming, although Saga DOES bring elements of fantasy in. The series's personality choices and archetypes for the characters may seem comparable to other works but the way the characters mesh make it stand out. Even the plot that revolves around two parents escaping with their child, which has here been emulated from other works, seems to bring a new taste and doesn't feel like an emulation but a genuine story. The design of the characters and their species is also captivating, from species ranging from teevees to winged and horned species.

Rating Update 26 May 2019
Five stars to four stars. After having read the synopsis, I can see how most of the volume is full of four star content, but not enough to keep the rating at five stars.

Rating Update 16 June 2019
With the adoption of my new rating system, a five star rating is befitting. After I finished reading the volume, I distinctively remember being overfilled with joy, characteristic to that from a five star rated book. My original review is a testament to my amazement of the volume.

Update
I have thought of changing the color of the rating from green with a grey outline to grey and a grey outline, but I must remind myself that I can remember feeling ecstasy after having finished the book, even though I do not feel so now. This is a rare heightened state after finishing a book, that I feel that I can assume that there are not significant areas that would lower the rating to a four star-rating, as was the case with Patriotism.

Update
I have changed the color of the rating from green with a grey outline to grey with a grey outline. I cannot accurately determine whether this book is a five star-rated book. I know, as the last update states, that the feeling I experienced definitely reached a five star-rating, but seeing that this is a volume of issues, I am not sure if certain issues detracted from it. I leave the rating at five stars because I cannot recall anything to suggest that it receives anything less than a five star-rating.
