First, the audiobook is fantastic and a really great way to read the book. I’m not a parent, so while it was dark, it wasn’t emotionally difficult to get through. However, if you are a parent, definitely look at trigger warnings. It’s definitely a different perspective on motherhood than what is normally depicted in the media and I enjoyed that.

We expect a mother to automatically unconditionally love their child and for the child to love and need their mother. But what happens if that’s not true? The mother is “broken” and the children is innocent in all this. The mother is paranoid to think their child doesn’t love them. The husband blames the mother even though the same pressures don’t apply to him. Other mothers will never admit to struggling the same way. This book explores all of that and more.
