The Simple Life
by Tara Sivec
Tara Sivec, I'd read your grocery list at this point.
I have slowly but surely been making my way through this woman's work and I'm always happy at the end of each one. Tara is one of the few authors I read who brings a heavy dose of humor into her writing and thank GOD. Yes, we have our sad moments, but for the most part we truly get a light-hearted story of a woman and man falling for one another. But each character has their own quirks that make them so enjoyable. I think my favourites in this one were Mia and Brooklyn's father (whose name is escaping me? ALLEN RIGHT? I'm too lazy to check). They're those no filter characters that we all know and love - the difference is that Mia is like 5 and Allen is a grown ass man. But it's hilarious on either end.
Watching Brooklyn grow as a character was the best. I think I say this in a lot of my reviews but some books that I've read show no growth. Just the character being completely one way and then suddenly changing their entire personality in the next chapter. Here, we have a character who you can see the shift in the way she goes from city-chic to a nanny/farm gal and I was here for it. Also, we love a good and hot farm boy. Clint was wonderful and reading the banter that these two had was what made this book even more fun. He was a great father but he was also just really genuine in everything and these two waste no time getting their shit together.... which I also enjoyed among everything else.
I WILL SAY, this book didn't feel as fall-like as I expected. Although, I don't really know how to make a book feel fall-like because... similar to Spring.... it's kinda a blah season aside from the leaves changing colours and like... pumpkins and shit. But you can't describe the freezing cold air or blistering sun because.... it has neither of those (or shouldn't. Climate change and all that has different ideas on the matter). This really makes no difference in reading. It was just worth mentioning but not worth losing any points.
Anyways, I love you Tara. I wish you sold paperbacks in Indigo stores so I can recommend you to everyone. Please make this a thing.
