Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I'm always very happy about an ARC and being able to give it a review! <3
I’ve read several books by Karin Slaughter, and unfortunately, I have to say that I find the pacing of her stories often too slow – and this book was no exception. For me, it could’ve easily been shortened to 100-150 pages. As a result, it took me ages to get to the end, as the tension built up too slowly.
When the action finally picks up, I do want to stay invested, but by that point, it just takes too long to get there. Unfortunately, this book gets only three stars from me, and it’s probably going to be my last by this author. I simply don’t enjoy the pacing of her stories.
That being said, the story itself was well thought out, and I found the search for the missing girls very exciting. It was depicted in a way that felt cinematic, almost like watching a movie. However, it wasn’t a standout for me – more like something I’ve read before in other thrillers.
