melissamctastic 's review for:
The House of the Spirits
by Isabel Allende
The prose was exquisite but the storylines are not.
This book was beautifully written with the best possible descriptions of every possible moment, breath, outfit, person, furniture, house, state of place, and anything else you could describe. Unfortunately, it was equally boring. I tried reading it on Kindle, I changed to book form because maybe that would help, but at the end of the day I was bored with the first 2/3 of the book. What was the point? Magic? Mystery? the Unusual? Politics? Misogyny? Patriarchy? Love, but make it weird?
I didn't enjoy it until the last 1/3 and even that was hard given the political nature we are currently living in.
This was the longest poem I've ever read.
