Successor's Promise by Trudi Canavan

3.0

Successor's Promise is the third book of the series and honestly the one I've struggled with the most.

After the Raen has been defeated at the end of the last book, this book shows us the developments that came after that. While showing us Rielle's and Tyen's new actions and purposes a new main character is properly introduced: Qall, the (probable) successor of the Raen and the vessel that he was originally supposed to be resurrected in.

Much of the book is spent on debating Qall's intentions and honestly the whole character fell short for me. I felt really disconnected to him and his motivations. For the important role he plays in the series I think it lacked his perspective. I recognize that a lot of suspense is supposed to come from the fact that nobody can read his thoughts and we as the reader are also not aware of them. But it made me just really uninterested in the book.
