A Curse of Salt by Sarah Street
4.0

Having found myself in a big reading slump over the last couple of weeks I decided to mix my genre choice up completely and picked up A Curse of Salt by Sarah Street which is a huge change for me.

Although this book is a slow burner it allowed me to dip in and out, reading a chapter here and there as it slowly began to build and pique my interest. I absolutely loved Beauty and the Beast and reading this book brought back memories as it really felt like that story being played out by a bunch of pirates!

The characters were all developed really well especially our main characters Ria and Sebastian but what was developed even more was the sea, the author really brought this to life in such a spine-tingling magical way. The author clearly has a wonderful imagination and this shines through in her writing. As with all fairytales the ending is predictable but this didn’t affect the overall enjoyment of the book, it was adventurous, romantic and delivered a big dose of nostalgia.

If you like the odd YA then this fairytale with curses, powers and the darkness of Pirates antics from pillaging wrapped around an enemy to lover core that will entertain you. This was the perfect magical book to gently pull me out of my slump and this is certainly an author who I would turn to again.
