I really found it hard to enjoy Mercy. The fetishisation of Scottish Gaelic culture infuriated me, Cam was an absolute wanker and Allie was beyond frustrating as a character. Why was she such a walkover all the time?
There was a few too many unanswered questions that I have that just didn't suit the kind of book Mercy is to leave them hanging. It was never made clear why Cam paid the lawyer to represent his cousin. How did Allie find out about the affair? Also how is it that no one in the entire book knows that Maggie scratching her husband as he suffocated her is a reflex response and would have happened no matter how badly she wanted to die? Not even the coroners or the doctors????
It was an easy enough read but I could not in good conscience recommend this to literally anyone.
