Dracula by Bram Stoker

4.0

Outside of Dracula, Van Helsing and Renfield - all superb - the characters are very dull. They are brave and pure-hearted but there's not much else there. But even they did come to grow on me by the end. Interesting structure, nicely-written in parts, ultimately impossible for me to imagine what it would be like to read this other than as a cultural-historical document. Surprisingly explicit (not to mention surprisingly quite suggestive) in the gory parts.

In this ed. I consulted the endnotes and read the preface by Chris Frayling but nothing else.
