I do not love time jumping books but it seemed to work for this. Chrissie’s mindset as a child is fascinating. Tucker did a great job at keeping in an 8 yrs old mindset and showing why it can be so hard to hold children that young for crimes such as she committed. There was a slew of traumatic wounds that do not by any means excuse what she did may have contributed to her beliefs that death wasn’t permanent. Her desire for any attention, even through lies or bad behavior, was heartbreaking.
My favorite part of the book must have been the dynamic between Chrissie and Linda. Childhood friendships are pure and complicated at the same time. The way Linda ended up being Chrissie’s family and home was a beautiful truth and thread that gave Chrissie a humanity she needed.
