“And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four?”
⠀
I got pretty shocked with some of the things I’ve read here, I’ve highlighted a lot.
⠀
I’m always afraid of reading classics because my braincells need to be working at their full capacity to read them BAHAHA, but this one felt so good to read. It was so straight to the point, it’s so easy to imagine the scenes, to understand the message the book is transmitting.
⠀
I loved loved loved how the first few chapters were just to welcome us into this dystopian world, how things work, the rules, who’s the main character... and then there comes ONE chapter that just explains the meaning of things, why the rules are this way, the effect they have on our brains- this was my fav chapter of the whole book.
⠀
I’m rating it 5/5 because, even though there wasn’t anything exactly new about this, this book EXPLAINED me the reasons why. Why all dystopias are basically a world lacking relationships, lacking freedom, lacking pleasures, lacking art, lacking love,... lacking everything that we consider to be good and part of being human.
It showed me how one falls into a dictatorship- here the character WANTS to go back to being blind in order not to face torture, and the book shows us his thought process.
⠀
I really liked this one. Way more than other classics I’ve read. Maybe I’m not so afraid to read them, anymore!!
