The Spore Queen by Debra Castaneda
5.0
As soon as I saw the cover and read the title I was so intrigued and I knew this was a book written for me and it did not disappoint. Eco-horror is my favorite genre and this book had everything I had hoped for. Nature horror, Spores, mushrooms and connections to Latin folklore.
The setting was very atmospheric, a combination of beauty and horror. I loved the different POVs, the characters are very well done and the story kept me gripped throughout the whole way. It was very easy the visualize what’s happening and the imagery carries a lot of detail.
Sometimes when I love a story so much, I can fly through it. But this time I decided to really take my time for it so I could really immerse myself into the story and characters.
The Spore Queen is part of the ‘Dark Earth Rising’ series. Each novel is a standalone, though the books are thematically related.
This was the first book of this series I read, also the first book by this author and I certainly plan on reading more by this author.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
