😢 we knew going into this after reading Powerless (unless you’re doing the tandem read, I read Powerless before this came out though!) that it wouldn’t have a HEA but that doesn’t make it any less tragic! Poor Adena and poor Mak 😩 what could’ve been between them was magical.
Adena is the sweetest, happiest girl ever and Mak is grumpy but so sweet to Adena. She turns his life around and makes him believe that things CAN be ok for him, he can be loved and he does deserve it. Adena finally had someone other that Pae she could turn to.
The only reason this isn’t a full 5 ⭐️ read for me (anywhere else but Goodreads who still don’t allow you to review in half or quarter stars 🙄) is because I would’ve like to see them both using more of their powers, it’s called Powerful yet we don’t see them being that powerful. I guess the most powerful thing they do is fall in love. I also wish Mak had done a bit more at the arena to try and Save Adena, I know he couldn’t without revealing what he is but still.
I knew this would be heartbreaking 💔 and it was. Hearing Adena’s perspective about what happened to her, her in the dungeon with her broken fingers 😩 omg, Lauren Roberts sure can write. So although this is truly heartbreaking I do recommend it, Adena’s is a story everyone should read, I wanted more of her in Powerless so this did that. And these two characters are adorable. I guess I also would’ve liked to see more of her side of things with Pae but maybe that would’ve been too repetitive after Powerless, especially for those doing the tandem read.
Moderate: Death, Grief
Minor: Torture
