A Special Place for Women
by Laura Hankin
You know a book is good when...
It makes you laugh,
It makes you cry, &
It makes you think!
Well check, check, and check for A Special Place for Women by Laura Hankin. This was one of my most anticipated reads this year and it did not disappoint. When Jillian, a journalist trying to make it big, discovers a secret club for Manhattans elite girl bosses she decides to infiltrate it. The result? A deep dive into the rise and abrupt fall of NYC’s first female mayor and her connection to the club.
And wow is it messy! I love rich people behaving badly and we can check that box off for this one too. Hankins has perfected writing a strong capable woman who is also vulnerable and we see that in many of the characters in this book. What I loved the most is the unexpected turns this one took. I really think there’s someone for everyone genre wise whether it be fake dating/ childhood friend romance, suspense, drama, boss romance, orrr magical realism! Also team Raf in case anyone was curious. What I’m saying is if you’re looking for something different for your summer tbr, this one should be it!
“In so many ways, magic and wealth were just the same thing”
