I’ve read a few of this type of book now; “collections” of little articles, intros, ponderings. Of the non-fiction variety. They are definitely dippers- better to be consumed in smaller bitesize pieces than in long sittings, as references do repeat themselves, anecdotes do resurface, names do get dropped… That said, Neil Gaiman writes here like he writes everywhere- with gusto, skill and consideration. Not many words wasted, not many thought-streams undisturbed by the ripples of his idea pebbles. A good mixed bag of material and collected in a thoughtful manner.
