A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G. Summers

Did not finish book. Stopped at 13%.
Prison may be the hell of other people but at least it s not a hell of people you love.

DNF at 13%.

I wanted to love this, I really did, but I feel like this just isn’t for me.

Unlikable characters are usually my favorite, sadly this just felt pretentious. I get that she’s supposed to have the psychopathic traits but the constant monologuing about random facts, how different she is to other girls and being a sex-crazed woman is just yawnnn. It read like a woman written by a man that has either never talked to a woman or is Stephen King.

The monologuing was so boring too like why did I have to read three pages of the origin of a drink…? The whining about hating and loving the mom. I have a deep feeling this will drag on through the entire book and I made the mistake to finish Animal by Lisa Thaddeo, hoping that it will change direction but never did.

The way this was written is just awful. Big words to appear smarter and yet she’s saying nothing at all. She wants to say something and takes up an entire page when you could’ve easily said the exact same thing in a single sentence. Big, academic words don’t make a book good but rather makes it unbearable to read. I’m German but speak and read English fluently and yet I was unable to understand half of what was being talked about which made me skip sentences which turned into paragraphs which turned into me just scanning over entire pages instead of reading it properly.

I’m going to protect my peace and DNF this.

Also, I was done with it when I had to read this line:

In an arc as perfect as a fifteen year old girl s breast I plunged the ice pick deep into the right side of Casimir s pale throat

What was the reason for that? I will never know. Also, too much detailed sex and as a sex repulsed person I don’t know how much more of that I would be able to take.
