Ghosts by Dolly Alderton
5.0

I adored this book. Dolly Alderton has a distinct voice, and Nina seems to be an extension of Alderton. I was engrossed from the very beginning. Nina is effortlessly cool and sure of herself in an approachable way. She never seemed like she was trying too hard and she felt so real - I'd love to grab a drink with her. I found her feminist view on heterosexual relationships very authentically messy and confusing and her longing for love and belonging rang true. Characterization was incredible and the writing was so well done. Nina's struggle with her father's illness and coming to terms with her parents' aging was palpable, and her heartbreak after Max ghosted her felt so real. This was such a modern telling of a love story, and, like Alderton's essay collection, sang the praises of strong female friendships. I will be thinking about this book for a long time.
