Wait for It
by Mariana Zapata
2.5 stars. It made me chuckle in some places, and I did want to make it to the end. This was like the underdeveloped, wordy sibling of [b:Kulti|24044596|Kulti|Mariana Zapata|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1419402858s/24044596.jpg|43644221] -- and I imagine it is the same with Zapata's other books, or at least [b:The Wall of Winnipeg and Me|29367958|The Wall of Winnipeg and Me|Mariana Zapata|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1456774327s/29367958.jpg|48358625]. The underlying story was good, but I was increasingly annoyed with Diana gushing over the relationships/characters from the other books. There were a lot of similarities with "Kulti," as well, that make me less compelled to read Zapata's other books, such as the bitchy non-threat "other" woman, the too-obvious "friends first" step before love, silent mountain man turns sentimental smooth talker, and nervous word vomit confessions from the heroine that cracks the seemingly evasive hero's shell... Also, Diana's constant efforts to dissuade help went on too long. Zapata made an effort to acknowledge this toward the end, as Dallas tells Diana AGAIN they are past this and asks if she is only this difficult with him (she is, apparently), but the reasoning never held up enough to be anything less than irritating: "I don't want you to get the wrong idea" becoming "I don't want to take advantage of you," stretching into the latter pages of the story...
