It got a little too preachy at parts, but the rest of the story I adored. I loved Noah and his little moments of triumph, and the sleazy, darkly magical Americana atmosphere made it so entrancing that I couldn't put it down if I wanted to (or when I needed to . . . I almost missed work because I was so wrapped up in one chapter). I hope Spurrier gets more work with these characters in the future, but now I'm going to start watching out for anything else he does along the way.
