This book was full of unexpected surprises, the first being that I liked it more than the previous book in the duology. I really enjoyed how Ross wove together so many different threads from the first book and then the beginning of the second one to come to this resolution. What I also found surprising was the characters I related to most. I felt like the blurb for the first book set it up that Jack and Adaira would be our main perspective characters and the story would focus the most around them. When it became clear that Sidra and Torin were also going to be main characters, I was gladdened that I took to their stories well. But in this book, I actually found their arcs more compelling than Jack and Adaira’s, especially Torin’s. Of all the characters, I felt Torin showed the most growth in perspective and personality and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
