Blood Truth
by J.R. Ward
So many horrible, disgusting tropes in this, I could make a bouquet. But I’m particularly tired of gay people being portrayed as either evil/depraved (seriously, beyond just being the murderer, sex with a corpse? was that necessary???), or killed, particularly killed in direct correlation to their gayness, which this poor victim was. Ward’s fixation on erection=desire is really shitty too (in this book she said men can’t hide their arousal because it’s so physically obvious, and in another book of hers a guy who got raped “must be into it” because he was erect—it’s a gross mischaracterization of a physical response, and it skeeves me out every time she goes there). I’ve just about had it with this series.
