From Bad to Cursed by Lana Harper
4.0

4/5

Cute, easy, fun read. It's great for Halloween and a light-hearted witchy novel.
I loved the mystery and how it resolved. The mystery and plot were well done. I also loved the enemies to lovers, but it was short-lived for me. Honestly, everything the book touched on, race, mental health, relationships, history, was glossed over. With a lighter book that's to be expected, but I wish it had gone deeper. That's the main reason this book is a 4/5 for me.
The other issue I had in both this and the 1st book in the series is the dialogue. At times, it felt unreal, sometimes preachy, forced, and just not authentic. There were word choices and full conversations that didn't feel like anyone would actually have. I will say, for the most part, this issue was pretty minimal, I only really noticed it at the beginning, but it was prominent enough at the beginning that I debated continuing. Ultimately, I pushed through, and I didn't notice any more uncomfortable and unrealistic dialogue. However, there were some strange word choices and phrases that didn't fit in the sentences/moments they were used in. For example, Isadora says "trust" at the end of the sentence, as in "trust me" without the me. It's a slang-y way to use that word and felt so weird and unauthentic to the character. There were multiple instances of this, too, with multiple characters.
Maybe it's nit-picky, but it pulled me out of the story, and that's a big problem for me. Overall, pretty minor issues. The story itself was fun, and I enjoyed it. I think with better dialogue and removing the popular slang, it'd be much closer to a 5.
