I thought the world building and the writing were very wonderful and well thought out! However, I do have a few complaints.
Firstly, I thought that the plot moved way too fast! I mean, having a 2 year jump and suddenly they are making out?? Did I miss a chapter?
Also, when Xingyin received the last mission, I thought to myself “Okay, they are probably gonna spent the rest of the novel seeking out each one of their targets and using different methods to fulfill their mission, that would be very interesting!” Only for the story to go “ Actually, due to sheer luck, we are going to give you exactly what you seek, because we need to make room for the BIG PLOT TWIST!” … okay.
Now the love triangle, oh dear.. To be fair, I think this is one of the first books that I read where there was a love triangle, and it will probably be the last for a good while. I feel like it wasn’t as necessary to be included, it was just there to add some extra drama. And they did all of that, only to go back to square one at the end??? No, thank you, I don’t need anymore.
Some characters felt dull as well. Of course, not all of them (Shuxiao, my beloved 🫶), but some of them felt as if they were born to serve a single purpose.
It was still a fun read, but it just wasn’t for me.
