Night of the Soul Stealer by Joseph Delaney
5.0

Night of the Soul Stealer proves much darker than the previous novels in the series. We see young Ward forced to grow up too fast, and he learns serious life lessons, as well as experiences significant personal loss. Most notably, Ward losses his father (death) and mother (return to homeland), which forces him to accept that life and happiness are fleeting. However, both of these losses help young Ward learn more about his craft and his life. Ward also begins to understand the friendships and romances (not sex) between men and women, finding various examples in the relationships between his father/mother, the Spook/women, and himself/Alice. As with the other novels in the series, Ward continues to gain wisdom, learn his craft, and acquire strength from overcoming his hardships. Of course, light still triumphs over dark.
