The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan
3.0
This was a beautiful story that was constructed expertly.
It blended grief and loss with love and hope in a very humane way.
I've always been a sucker for the element of commonplace supernatural so that was a welcome surprise, and the way all the separate lives were weaved together by the end was very well done.
I do have one grievance though and that was the numerous and slightly unnecessary $64 words. While I love learning new words, they constantly pulled me out of the story world to grab a dictionary which became increasingly vexing.
Despite this the flow of the story ad the sentence structure was expertly crafted. So I can only guess that a lover of words forgot that not everyone will share the knowledge that comes with that love and that it can come across as pretentious when done to excess.
Beyond that I still enjoyed reading this book and at the end of the day that is what matters most.
