Refuse to Be Done: How to Write and Rewrite a Novel in Three Drafts by Matt Bell
5.0
Refuse to be done is a writers guide to editing a book. It is specific to writing a novel, but I found it immensely helpful with my memoir.
Some of his suggestions I have already used, some of them were helpful in the rough draft phase. At points I got exhausted with the number of times he goes through a manuscript cutting, tweaking, and tightening the story. On the other hand this short book is dog eared and underlined everywhere. I will continue to refer back to it as I edit, searching the text for filler and overused words, knowing that I’m not “wasting” the words I cut, but making the text better, smoother, and more descriptive.
