The behaviour of the partner/boss was very reminiscent of the one in 'The Undomestic Goddess' by Sophie Kinsella, down to having similar names. However if both authors have experience of the legal world I can fully believe there are multiple senior lawyers behaving in similar ways so they may have come up with the same idea separately. See also the mentor in 'Love, theoretically'. However the fact I recognized this behaviour added a bit of dramatic irony, willing the character to wake up and recognize the reality of her situation.
