In my opinion these graphic novels got better and better!
I thought that Alice Oseman did a fantastic job representing Mental Health with the little bit of space she had. I know from personal experience what staying in a mental hospital is like and I think that the brief but powerful section describing what Charlie has did this graphic novel justice. Unfortunately mental illness is very real and it is not an easy thing to cope with or understand at any age. This can be an ongoing issue for Charlie but I'm happy he took the time he needed to get help. I hope he finds some answers...
I also loved that Nick is staying by Charlie's side during all of this. It is not easier but I think having a partner or group of friends who understands is super helpful when it comes to recovery. I think it is very brave of Nick to stick by Charlie durning this time. He also has some things he is dealing with and adding mental illness for his partner cannot be easy.
I love Nick in these graphic novels but this one in particular gave me all the feelings because Mental Illness is something I've been dealing with on and off since I was 15 (now 31). Thank you Alice Oseman for some really powerful, relatable, hard hitting graphic novels. I cannot wait to continue these when the next volume comes out!
