Love in Colour: Mythical Tales from Around the World, Retold
by Bolu Babalola
In keeping with my wedding/love kinda theme, this collection of short stories was just lovely to peruse as prep for the big day.
This book contains 10 mythical tales from around the world, retold skilfully by the author, and 3 original tales, all focussing on the wonderful thing that is love! The introduction by the author (see my post later on today to read that) had me hooked. If I hadn’t already picked the readings for my wedding I would say that her words on love would be a perfect wedding reading!
The tales themselves are all imaginative retellings and were perfect for dipping in and out of. I loved the reimagining of all the women into strong, independent women, who don’t necessarily need romantic love, but their lives are enhanced when then find it. With tales from Nigeria, Ghana, Ancient Egypt and more, I also enjoyed a whistle stop tour of the world with many different cultures covered.
I would recommend not reading this book all in one go even though it was very easy to read. As they are all love stories it might make them all merge into one and I found it better to savour them as individual little tales.
A perfect little pre wedding read and I’d definitely look for more from this author.
