I enjoyed this crime thriller set in France, the first of the Enzo Macleod series. I thought the plot was very well planned out and fairly unique, a treasure hunt around France finding body parts and more clues along the way. The pacing was a little slow at the start but it quickly got going and I started to enjoy it.
the characters were a fairly varied bunch - I wasn't too keen on Enzo himself, specifically the way he talked about poor Nicole. Every time Nicole was in a scene, her boobs just had to be mentioned - ‘quivering’, ‘shivering’, ‘juddering’ ‘cantaloupes’. Not only is this pretty sexist, it was so irrelevant to the plot, I just found it quite worrying that Enzo (and by extension the author) was judging Nicole’s character purely on her appearance.
However I did like some of the other characters, specifically Bertrand who had some great character development with Enzo and was a prime example of not judging a book by its cover, as well as being pivotal to saving the day at the end of the book.
Overall, a good plot, but I'm hoping that Enzo’s character will grow on me as I continue to read the series.
