The Never Have I Ever Club by Mary Jayne Baker

2.0

I was ever so slightly disappointed with this book. It's worse than [b:A Question of Us|49484340|A Question of Us|Mary Jayne Baker|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1562896104l/49484340._SX50_SY75_.jpg|70884793], and it didn't live up to my expectations. I was hoping it would be funny like Mary Jayne Baker's earlier novels. I felt like there was no chemistry between Robyn and Will, and therefore no rationale for why they should end up together. Ash's attempts at winning Robyn back felt like stalking, and their cat and mouse chase through the book was hilarious, with Robyn refusing Ash at every turn. That life drawing session was written really well and overall, I thought the book was OK. But it could be a lot better.

I understand that falling for the ex' twin brother makes for a complicated and awkward triangle; especially when both brothers are in love with the same person, but I feel like it essentially takes over the whole novel and is the primary plot compared to the one you would actually think its about (just by looking at the cover). The cover instantly told me that the book would be about a friends club based on the classic drinking game. It's not. It's about getting a second chance in life and I found that really inspiring, but there wasn't enough of it in the book. There should have been more experiences, challenges and insights into discovering and embracing new things. There's too much romance, and it is not what I signed up for when I started reading this book.
