The Turn of the Screw by Henry James

5.0

I look forward to writing my next paper on my first read of a Henry James novel! James is a master of suspense. His use of first person POV from the perspective of a governess descending into madness was quite a ride and the motif of light and darkness was ever-present throughout the book. His use of dramatic and situational irony kept me asking questions on every page. The ghosts that possess the children seem to play on a dark situational irony of evil and innocence, which make the two children even more frightening throughout the book. I enjoyed this very much and will make it my goal to read more classics throughout the year!
