Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang

3.0

This is a difficult one to rate. Perhaps the score is also conditioned by being a change in genre and format from my usual reading.
There were two stories that I really enjoyed: "Story of Your Life" and "Liking What you See: A Documentary". But I found some of other ideas a little less engaging and it took me longer to finish them. I got especially bogged down in "Seventy-Two Letters" because I wasn't as interested in the golem creation story-line.
Overall, the stories are original and thought provoking. I don't read a lot of science fiction, but these stories were less fantastical and otherworldly than I expected. All the stories are all rooted in human emotion and psychology, and the collection is relatable because they raise issues that face us now; Black Mirror in literature.
