Too Good to Be True by Carola Lovering
3.0

compelling (as in a good vacation read- I probably wouldn’t have been into this otherwise) despite some significant plot holes/ inconsistencies

Like…
In one chapter Burke is flicking a cigarette onto heathers new clients lawn… and then in another wr have Heather saying Burke has always had excellent manners.

It’s clear the author has no kids and didn’t bother to have a beta reader who is a parent. We are really supposed to believe some of the best days of Heathers life were when she was stuck in a tiny NYC apartment with a baby while her husband worked insane hours?? And that her mom groups consisted of women gigging about which babies would someday get married?

Also- I can’t wrap my head around why Heather didn’t leave Burke early in the relationship if her true goal the whole time was money.

And the impossibility of Burke getting Skye to fall in love with him so the plan could work just feels super unrealistic

Not to mention skyes dad and stepmom being proud of her for being with him in the end… despite stealing 2M not to mention all the legal bills they incurred for no reason…

Anyway, it’s an okay brain candy thriller if you can suspend a LOT of disbelief

And some of the journal entries… I’m like has the author ever met someone from “generation x”??? Like we’re old as dirt lol but I just can’t imagine ever writing in my journal “I was among the first among Generation X to use Facebook” Really?? This could maybe be believable if heather was i don’t know a pop culture writer.
