chiaramariaa 's review for:
Heavy Crown
by Sophie Lark
This started off really promising, but ended in a really disappointing way (especially as a series' finale).
Where to begin?
While I liked Sebastian and Yelena as individual characters, I didn't really vibe with their relationship. They felt very insta-lovey to me, I mean. And then, after the their relationship just felt super toxic to me. Like, Seb says that he'll forgive Yelena if she submits to him sexually, which she does and I ... what??? Honey, you have to talk about what happened, you can't just pretend to forget all the shit's that gone down by going at each other like wild animals the whole night long.
This whole scene altogether just felt very weird to me and left a bad taste in my mouth. Sebastian basically tells her that he will stop if she doesn't want to do something, but he also says that if she tells him to stop, he'll never forgive her and will never be with her again. Like, what? That's basically manipulating her into 'consenting' ... Idk, I just didn't really vibe with that particular scene. Especially since it's alluded to multiple times that Yelena's father mentally and verbally abused her for years, manipulating her whenever he felt like it.
I just wish that things had been resolved more satisfyingly. I knew that this book had to end with a big rift between Yelena and Adrian, to set up the main conflict between Leo and Dean in the Kingmakers series, but I still wish that Dante and Sebastian had made up or that.
I really enjoyed the cameo's from other characters, especially Aida (and Callum) who play a bigger role in this one.
In conclusion: a dissatisfying series' finale, with same great moments here and there.
