I really enjoyed Emilia Hart’s writing style, but for me the book just didn’t have enough narrative thrust.
Things are simplistic in this universe: Good is good and bad is bad, motives are thin. Predictable. It’s a bit slow and emotionally self indulgent. It’s a very “we are the daughters of the witches they couldn’t burn” vibe, it’s anti-patriarchy but it’s not necessarily an inclusive take on female empowerment.
I found myself needing to really power through the last part of the book, which seems to go on long after major narrative conflicts are sorted.
