I don’t know how to explain what I feel for this series…I absolutely love the intelligent way she writes. A lot of people say they feel like she’s talking down at people, almost, but I think it’s just the psychology of the characters. I appreciate the intelligence and vocabulary and presentation of scientific ideas. I absolutely love my high fantasy books, but sometimes I feel like this type of analysis is what I’m missing.

This being said, the first book was great. The second book was filler. This third book was okay. I feel like the second and third books were either rushed, she didn’t have a clear ending in her head, or both. I’m not sure. I love her writing style, but I think the story/plot line could’ve used as much in-depth analysis as her research into scientific hypotheses.

I don’t think she’s snobby - I’ve seen a lot of that word being thrown around in other reviews. I appreciate the effort she puts into her books, especially the expansion of vocabulary and ideas. I just wish there was better follow through with this series. I was hooked after the first book, and felt disenchanted as soon as I got to the second one. And the ending seemed…odd?

Overall, I still love her as an author.
