Maggie's Grave is a chilling story that is perfect for the season of the witch, with enough bodies broken and torn to keep your bloodlust satisfied for the rest of the day. While most of the characters are unlikeable; their mutilations can carry enough tension for Maggie to keep making her way for her baby and keeping the readers entertained with her path of terror. It can be believed the story also carries themes of motherhood and misogyny that are emphasized by Alice's plight, and it can overshadow Beth's supposed character development. However, when you read Beth's fate with Maggie, you thought Beth was set up as the final girl for the story. The end with Beth's bodily twist will subvert and shock and add another layer for a novel that would entertain any gorehound.
The most disturbing part of the novel that would come close to making me flinch the most was Steve's and Courtney's death on top of Maggie's actual grave. At that moment of sex, Steve faces castration, and Courtney becomes a vessel for Maggie digging out of her naval and splitting her apart. It is a dreadful and disgusting birth for the undead witch as she comes into the world of living
