Case in point... I get it that he's come back to find her engaged, but, really, you're a bit snobbish about it, no?It's pretty amazing how close the movie is to the book. That said, I didn't like Goldman's voice in this. While it was a great idea to write as the abridging author on his favorite book that worked to inspire the structure of the film, the interjections and complaints about his wife, working with [a:Stephen King|3389|Stephen King|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1362814142p2/3389.jpg], the real kingdom of Florin (in the book universe)... Eh, I was annoyed just about every time he interrupted. I found those passages overlong.
If you love the movie and wouldn't mind reading the same story (with very minor differences) and a lot of added, slightly pompous, interjections, you will enjoy this.
If you've never seen the movie, read this and then see the movie. Decide which you like better. Continue to enjoy and re-enjoy the one of your choosing.
I'm sticking with the movie.
