The Maze Runner by James Dashner
4.0

Holy crap what an Ending! I did Not see that coming!

What a strange and bizarre world. At first this had a bit of a Hunger Games vibe and I assumed the kids were sent to the maze as some sort of punishment. Without spoiling anything for those who haven't read it, I was surprised to discover the real reason they were there.

I liked Thomas although he was a little whiny, I'm sure in that situation I'd have been a blubbering mess so I can't really complain. Chuck was adorable, like the little brother I never had, I just wanted to protect him. Teresa was a bit of a non character really. She didn't get much pagetime and we didn't really get to see any aspect of her personality emerge. She tells us that she's tough and that's about it really. Hopefully she'll have some development in the later books.

The last 25% of the book was far more exciting and engaging than the first 75% and although I did enjoy the backstory and build up, it was great to finally get to the finale. The epilogue was excellent and totally hooked me in. I can't wait to read books 2 and 3.
