Ariadne by Jennifer Saint

Ariadne was such an enjoyable read. I especially liked how it wasn’t just a retelling of a Greek mythology story, but we got to experience this story from Ariadne and Phaedra’s perspectives. It’s nice to see things from women’s views especially because women often get taken advantage of throughout Greek mythology. I really enjoyed the theme that women often take the punishment for the actions of men throughout Greek mythology and beyond. The author ties this into the stories of Medusa and Pasiphae and carries it into Ariadne and Phaedra’s story. As a woman, I felt that I could really relate to these characters and understood why they thought the way they did or made the choices that the did. I also really felt for these two after everything they both experienced. The progression of all the characters and their actions felt really natural, while the book itself kept a nice pace. I also really enjoyed the ending, as tragic as it was. I am definitely looking forward to reading more of Jennifer Saint’s takes on other Greek mythology.
